Change the current activity in a workflow
Sometimes it is necessary to change the activity workflow task to a different one. For example, if a user advances the workflow and then realizes there was something else they needed to do, or changes were made and previous editors need to review them.
Required permissions
To create, view, update, and delete workflows you must either be an Administrator, the project Owner, or have the following permissions:
- Create, read, update, and delete permissions to the
Projects module. - For the Projects module, your user account must be listed under the following Property: can_initiate_assignment.
- If you are an administrator, refer to Allow users to create project assignments and workflows.

Tips and tricks
- Workflows provide an option called Change active assignment.

- You can find a workflow and access the Change active assignment in the following places:
- The
Workflows module on the Projects tab - The
Projects module in the Workflows panel
- The
- The Change active assignment option is only available for workflows that have a State of Executing.
- Using this option opens the Transitions screen that lists the transitions available in the workflow template you used to start the workflow.

If the Transition you need does not appear in the list, then that transition is not included in the workflow template you used to start the workflow.- You cannot select a new workflow template after the workflow is active.
- You can cancel the current workflow and start a new one based on a workflow template that has the transitions and activities you need.
Selecting a new assignment and then clicking Create Assignment has the following consequences:
The State of the current assignment is set to Completed.
- The workflow moves to the selected transition.
