Snapshots are copies of a component you have saved at different intervals so you can recover information from different versions. For example, you may want a snapshot of a topic when you create, move, and update it. You can export a snapshot of a component to maintain a copy outside of Inspire if necessary.

Use the

Restore actions with caution!
- If you import an exported snapshot, the imported component becomes the active snapshot.
- Before you restore a previous snapshot, make sure the restored version is appropriate for all documents that reference the component.
- Any content that's referenced but not included in the snapshot won't be restored.
To find out where a component is used, follow the steps in
View component references.

Exported name formats
If you export the snapshot only and no references, the component isn't packaged in a ZIP file. Exporting a single component without references uses the following naming format:
{ComponentFileName}.xml
- For example, Cloud_Computing_fd22225c-846f-4ed1-be0c-20a10e4e7f67.xml.
If you export the snapshot and include references, the components are packaged in a ZIP file. Exporting a snapshot with references uses the following naming format:
Export-{ComponentName}-DateTime.zip
- For example, Export-Cloud_Computing-2024-12-27-051608.zip.
